My journey as an artist has led me down countless paths, for which I’m truly grateful. We are both very passionate about illustration, art, and infusing humor into our work. We’ve always loved bringing our ideas to life, and one of our inspirations is our shared love for golf. So, where do our ideas come from? By working together, I usually start by sketching whatever comes to mind, building on those ideas. Sometimes, inspiration takes a while, but then, without overthinking, a picture will suddenly emerge, often sparking humorous impulses. To bring these creations to life, I’ve started keeping a notebook to jot down ideas, whether it’s something we need to follow up on or save for a future painting project.
1. Why the kiwis or kiwi birds?
Our answer: Have you ever seen a real kiwi bird? They are so cute and, of course, funny to watch. With their unique calls and quirky running, they’re a secretive bird that only ventures out at night. Very rarely would you see one during the day. Back in the early 1900s, a cartoonist depicted a kiwi bird as a rugby player, and during the Great War, as soldiers representing New Zealand as a nation. That’s why we all consider ourselves “Kiwis.” So instead of using actual people in our illustrations, we’ve replaced them with comical kiwis!
2. Where are you based?
We are based in Auckland but locally we are all over New Zealand.
3. Can we purchase your paintings?
Yes, you can. On our website, you’ll be able to purchase prints or framed prints directly from us, which take 3 to 7 days to dispatch within NZ. We can also arrange international deliveries, but we need to know the destination first to ensure careful planning and that all parties are happy with the arrangements.
4. Can we buy the originals?
Yes and no. It depends on whether the originals have already been sold. Please check our website to confirm availability. We can also repaint a new piece if that’s what you’d like. You can discuss any ideas or requests by contacting us directly through our website.
5. How long do I need to wait for an answer?
With many projects in hand, we’re doing our best to answer your requests as soon as we can, typically within 1 to 4 days. If it’s urgent, please DM us through our Instagram.
6. What products do you sell?
We have several avenues through which you can purchase our products. You can buy from our secure T-shirt website, where you’ll find a variety of products to customize using our designs: Golfing with Kiwis Shop. You can also purchase prints and original paintings through our main website: Koru Kiwi Arts. Additionally, if you're interested, we sell original music on our website as well.
7. Do you do commissions?
It depends on the subject, so please reach out. You never know—we might be able to create something special just for you.
8. Do you have anywhere we can see your art in person?
Yes, you can see our art in local galleries and craft stores throughout New Zealand. All details will be shared on our blog, directly accessible through our main website or Instagram.
9. Do you have a studio, and can we visit?
Yes, we do have a studio. Unfortunately, we’re not currently accepting visitors for private viewings unless we know you personally or have connected with you multiple times over the years. We take our privacy seriously, but feel free to contact us, you never know!
